U.S. Defense Institute of International Legal Studies Conducts Training on Peacekeeping Operations

Four instructors from the Defense Institute of International Legal Studies (DIILS) of
Newport, Rhode Island, U.S., are conducting a week-long training seminar from December 4 to 8 at Diamond Hall, Mobile Wing, Vacoas.
Forty-five participants, including police officers and State Law Office representatives, are participating in the training seminar, which focuses on Peacekeeping Operations in Accordance with the Rule of Law. The topics covered include: training for peace operations, developing a peace operations agenda for Mauritius, rules of engagement in peace operations, human rights and peace operations, rules for use of force in law enforcement operations, regional organizations and peace operations, the UN Charter, the Mauritian perspective on peace operations, the national policy for peace operations, and civil-military police cooperation in peace operations.
The U.S Embassy organized the training seminar as part of its International Military Education Training Program (IMET). The IMET Program, funded by the United States Government and administered by the Department of State, was established in Mauritius in 1996. The U.S. Government has awarded grants of 4.8 million Rupees for military training to the Government of Mauritius this year through the IMET program.
