Visit of Recruiters for U.S. and Canadian Universities

October 31, 2005

The U.S. Embassy in Port Louis is pleased to announce the visit to Mauritius, November 5 – 7, 2005, of fifteen representatives from 12 well-known U.S. and 3 Canadian universities.   Their visit to Mauritius is part of an African tour that will take them to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, and Ethiopia.   The Africa Tour Director is Juan Camilo Tamayo from Lynn University, in Boca Raton, Florida.

The tour, called "Connecting Students to Higher Education," is sponsored by the Council of International Schools (CIS), based in the United States.  The CIS is a not-for-profit association of schools and post-secondary institutions working collaboratively for the continuous improvement of international education.  Only experienced admission officers and international educators from accredited colleges and universities participate in CIS-sponsored member tours.  CIS has been sponsoring successful recruitment tours for over 20 years and has conducted four recruitment tours to Africa since 1999, but it will be visiting Mauritius for the first time.

During their short visit in Mauritius, the admission officers from the U.S. and Canadian universities will participate in a public College Fair at Le Bocage International School, Moka, on November 7, 2005, from 11:00 to 13:00.   The Chargé d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy, Stephen Schwartz, will deliver remarks at the opening of the College Fair.  The admission officers will be available to offer guidance and helpful advice to Mauritian students and their parents on how to apply to universities in the U.S. and Canada, and about financial aid offered by these universities.  Students will be able to learn about the universities in various American and Canadian states.

The College Fair is open to the public.  Media representatives are most welcome to visit the College Fair at Le Bocage International School.
