DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT VISA PROGRAM (DV-2007)
October 5, 2005
The US Government is pleased to announce that the 2007 Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2007) registration will run from noon EST on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 until noon EST on Sunday, December 4, 2005.
The annual DV Program makes permanent residence visas available to persons meeting the simple, but strict, eligibility requirements. Applicants for Diversity Visas are chosen by a computer-generated random lottery drawing. The visas, however, are distributed among six geographic regions with a greater number of visas going to regions with lower rates of immigration, and with no visas going to citizens of countries sending more than 50,000 immigrants to the U.S. in the past five years. Within each region, no one country may receive more than seven percent of the available Diversity Visas in any one year.
The DV-2007 lottery will be conducted entirely by electronic means. Paper entries are no longer accepted. The Department of State has established a dedicated website for the submission of Diversity Visa entries, http://www.dvlottery.state.gov, while instructions for the program may be found on http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_1318.html. Applicants are strongly encouraged to not wait until the last week of the registration period to enter.
Successfully registered entries will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing the applicant's name, date of birth, country of chargeability, and a date/time stamp, which can then be printed.
