A World Premiere: Investigative Information Management Course for Mauritian Law Enforcement Officials

The Investigative Information Management (IIM) Course sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Office of Anti-Terrorism Assistance will be held from August 18 through August 29, 2008 at the Maritim Hotel in Balaclava.  Mauritius will be the first country in the world to benefit from this training course.

In fact, the IIM course will provide two weeks of interactive classroom instruction to mid-level managers responsible for managing and disseminating law enforcement investigative analysis. The overall theme of this course will be "investigative analysis enhancing enforcement efforts", with an emphasis on developing a law enforcement investigative analysis unit and effectively managing it.

Through this course, law enforcement representatives will gain a greater appreciation of how law enforcement investigative analysis can be utilized to detect, deter, and prevent terrorism, as well as other crimes. Participants will be exposed to a number of current investigative analysis topics and offered some of the latest information on law enforcement investigative analysis unit management.  They will examine the investigative information process and its management, information and operations security, investigative analysis dissemination, interagency cooperation, trends and indicators in terrorism, and the formation of a law enforcement investigative analysis unit, a pakage that should help police improve security for the entire country.

Participants will also be presented with information on evaluating analytical findings, ethical issues, and auditing a law enforcement investigative analysis unit.  Through class discussion, breakout groups, problem solving exercises, and in-depth case studies, participants will learn innovative investigative analytic concepts and hone their skills in managing a law enforcement investigative analysis unit.  In addition, participants will be presented with information on the extremely important topic of human rights from the perspectives of both the United Nations and the United States.  The IIM course will also enable participants to employ innovative strategies and effectively manage law enforcement investigative analysis units to enhance their country's ability to combat terrorism through law enforcement investigative analysis utilization.
