The 2006 U.S. Embassy Democracy and Human Rights Fund Program

The United States Embassy invites Project proposals from Mauritian NGOs or government institutions for the 2006 Democracy and Human Rights Fund (DHRF) Program. 

DHRF grants, usually between Rs 150,000 – Rs750,000, provide funding to small, short-term, and high-impact activities that support democratic institutions, political pluralism, and the protection and advocacy of human rights.  Activities should be completed and all funds expended within one year from the date of signing the DHRF agreement.  

What type of activities can be funded under DHRF Program?

 Human Rights
 Legal
 Judicial
 Legislative
 Civic Education
 Women and Children’s Rights
 Electoral
 HIV/AIDS Prevention
 Conflict Resolution

Who is eligible?

Any non-governmental organization or governmental democratic institutions promoting democracy, good governance, transparency, or any of the above-mentioned activities may apply.

The Project proposals should include the following details:

Description of activity
Objectives
Beneficiairies
Budget estimate 

Proposals should be submitted to:

DHRF Coordinator
U.S. Embassy
Rogers House, Level Four
Port Louis

The deadline for the submission of the project proposal is May 25, 2006.
