The U.S. Embassy and the Africa Center for Strategic Studies Organize a Symposium on the Theme “Current National Security Issues: Peacekeeping, Terrorism Financing, and Drug Trafficking”
March 17, 2009
he Embassy is pleased to welcome the Africa Center for Strategic Studies (ACSS), a United States Department of Defense (DOD) entity, as well as guest speakers from the U.S. Treasury and AFRICOM, to conduct a topical symposium on “Current National Security Issues: Peacekeeping, Terrorism Financing, and Drug Trafficking.” About 150 participants including senior government officials and private sector leaders have been invited to participate in this Symposium. The Symposium provides a broad spectrum of innovative measures to address security issues confronting Mauritius in the twenty- first century, such as drug trafficking, maritime security, terrorist financing, and regional conflicts. This capacity-building program seeks to raise awareness on these issues, build networks among stakeholders and share best practices on optimizing national security.
The Africa Center for Strategic Studies supports the development of the United States’ strategic policy towards Africa by providing high quality, relevant, and timely academic programs, fostering awareness of and dialogues on U.S. strategic priorities and African security issues, building networks of African, American, European and other international military and civilian leaders, assisting U.S. policymakers in formulating effective African policy, and articulating African perspectives to U.S. policymakers.
The Africa Center for Strategic Studies Topical Outreach Program has been designed for many African countries whose participants are high-ranking leaders and experts in a variety of fields. Mauritius has fifty graduates from the ACSS and launched the Mauritius Africa Center Chapter last year.
