Sainte Croix Community Health Center inaugurated
Ambassador Villarosa and Minister of Health Bundhoo inaugurated the new addition to the Sainte Croix Community Health Center on May 9. This addition is the result of a collaboration between the Mauritian and the American governments, via the U.S. Department of Defense, which provided approximately Rs 5,500,000 for the project.
"The Role of Women in Mauritius"
On Wednesday, May 8, Ambassador Shari Villarosa delivered remarks on “The Role of Women in Mauritius” to the Rotary Club of Port Louis. The U.S. Embassy has embarked on a number of programs to promote the full involvement of women in Mauritian politics, business, and all aspects of society.
Lila King of CNN talks about Citizen Journalism
In celebration of World Press Freedom Day 2013, the U.S. Embassy hosted, on May 2, a Live Webchat on Citizen Journalism with Lila King, Senior Director for Social News and iReport Manager at CNN. Amilcar Veerapen, young Mauritian citizen/freelance journalist introduced the webchat.
English Teachers attend workshops by RELO
Regional English Language Officer (RELO) Sara Denne-Bolton conducted two workshops on English Language Teaching Techniques, for some 50 English teachers, in the U.S. Embassy Information Resource Center. Teachers who have successfully completed their E-Teacher Scholarship Program training received their certificates.
Women in Networking empowers women leaders
On Wednesday, April 24, Ambassador Villarosa addressed the participants of a Women in Networking (WIN) event where the theme was “Empowering Women Leaders”. Women’s empowerment is a priority for the U.S. Embassy which has conducted a number of programs to uplift women.

Call for Applications for the 2014-2015 Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program
The Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Mauritius is pleased to announce the annual call for applications for the Fulbright Junior Staff Development (JSD) Program for the 2014/2015 academic year. Grantees selected for degree study will be funded for a maximum of 2 years. All awards are contingent upon approval by the J. William Fulbright Scholarship Board (FSB), availability of funds, and successful academic placement. Deadline for submission of applications will be Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at latest. The United States Embassy in Mauritius is pleased to announce the annual competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program. This one-year Fellowship program is offered to mid-career professionals who have a proven track record of leadership, a public service commitment, and the capacity to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent non-degree study at a leading U.S. university.
