U.S. Department of State Speaker Program - Ellen Hume Conduct Workshops and Talks on "Press Freedom and Journalism Ethics"

Ellen Hume, an Annenberg Fellow in Civic Media at the Center for Media and Communication Studies at Central European University in Budapest visited Mauritius under the U.S. Department of State’s Speaker Program from October 19 -22, 2009. The main theme of Ms. Hume’s program was: Press Freedom and Journalism Ethics.
The Speaker Program kicked off on October 19 with a brunch working session with chief editors and senior journalists from various newspapers and private radio stations. A series of meetings with chief editors, visits to media outlets, including radio stations and the national television station, on-the-spot interviews, talks to representatives from the Police Public Relations Office and at the University of Mauritius (on the theme: News Media, New Media and Elections) were included on her four-day schedule. On Wednesday, October 21, Ms. Hume led a one-day workshop with journalists and advisors on information matters at Le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel. Chargé d’Affaires Virginia Blaser gave opening remarks at the workshop.
